I am preparing an NSF Major Research Instrumentation proposal to replace
our 1987 vintage 300 MHz console. Unfortunately, the Research Project
Specialist in the grants office who has been assigned to me is in her first
month on the job, so neither one of us has experience with the ins and outs
of MRI proposals.
Would some of you be willing to share a recent MRI proposal so that I can
get an idea of what's reasonable and what's pushing-it in our request and
our proposed match? We wish to include three years worth of an
electronics/NMR technician in our request and that gets expensive. Our
feeling is that it is much harder to create a new position like that out of
the blue but that, if we can hire one on soft money, it will be easier to
convince administration that the person is essential and must be retained.
I'll be grateful for help. The deadline is getting close.
