In our lab we have a well used (1966?) Varian electromagnet (V3800, >2
Tesla, 20 kW (140V at 140A)) which we have used for solid state NMR for
many years. Recently the power supply has begun to die (some of the
transformer taps are badly worn). Since the magnet itself is in good
condition and still useful we are interested in keeping it and replacing
the power supply and its Varian Mark II controller.
I suspect that at least some of you may still have electromagnets and I was
hoping that someone might have some suggestions (or any good/bad
experiences they have had) on where one could obtain a similar sized power
supply and also a modern field controller (hall probe based, computer
controllable, etc.).
Thank you
