AMMRL: NMR Facility Director Position Open at University of Oregon

The University of Oregon is seeking a Facility Director to advance
research, education, and outreach for the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
Facility within the Center for the Advanced Materials Characterization in
Oregon (CAMCOR). This includes working with other researchers, teaching NMR
Instrumentation courses, organizing topic workshops, and assisting the
faculty with related curriculum. The Facility Director will also be
expected to train and supervise all instrument users which includes
faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, staff, visiting
scholars, commercial clients, and undergraduate student worker assistants,
etc. The incumbent will need to stay current on NMR science and technology
best practices while maintaining a network of professional contacts
including external NMR facility managers, instrumentation and supply
vendors, and prospective commercial clients. The Facility Director is
expected to pursue external clients to maximize facility usage while still
maintaining internal user training, access, and assistance. The Facility
Director will assist with business development within CAMCOR by helping to
keep marketing material updated and implementing recruitment strategies.

Maintaining the NMR spectrometer systems will be an essential function in
this position. This will include regular calibration and performance
testing, hardware trouble-shooting, repair, upgrades of NMR systems
hardware and software, cryogen service (liquid helium & nitrogen) for
superconducting magnets and cryoprobes, ordering supplies, and instrument
scheduling. The Facility Director will also be responsible for maintaining
and upgrading data systems hardware and software. This will include Linux
operating system configuration and management, network security, creation
of new user accounts, and maintenance of the NMR Facility website and
reservation calendar. The Facility Director will also consult with faculty
as needed to assist with field and equipment expertise in the grant
proposal process.

In conjunction with the reporting supervisor, the Director of the CAMCOR
facility, this position will work with the NMR Faculty Advisory Committee
to assess facility and program needs, coordinate and write major multi-user
instrumentation acquisition, and upgrade grant proposals. This will involve
working with the Faculty Advisory Committee and the Office of the Vice
President for Research & Innovation (OVPRI) Administration to create a
strategic plan to sustain and advance the NMR facility and services.

This position will be filled at the Research Assistant or Associate level
depending on finalist qualifications and experience.
