AMMRL: Cracked Plastic end of Protune Cable (Agilent system)

Dearest AMMRL colleagues,

On one of our Agilent systems, the plastic/rubber/epoxy end of the
protune cable where it attaches to the protune unit has cracked. Over time
the crack has worsened to the point that it now regularly slips off the
protune module.

Agilent has graciously offered to replace the protune cable for $3815
(choke!) or try to repair it for a mere $1000 and potential weeks of
downtime.

Years ago I recall these plastic ends to be a sort of soft plastic or hard
rubber. However, they have grown brittle with age and now crack easily. I
foresee needing these repaired more frequently as more time passes.

Anyone taken a crack at repairing this themselves? Seems like you could
epoxy the crack back together. Not sure of unintended consequences.

Penny for your thoughts...
