Greetings all,
What Jerry is asking for is possible. It did take me several weeks to
find the location of the various variables I wanted to modify. First, I
copied those files containing the variables into another directory
maintaining the the vnmr path structure. (example:
/home/addon/templates/vnmrj/interface). Then I edited them to change the
values I wanted for the default. In my case, I modified files in the
adm/walkupadm, maclib, modules, templates/layout/default and
templates/vnmrj/interfaces directories.
Next is the tricky part. First, if you are not aware of it, there is a
file that controls the path search hierarchy for VNMRJ. This is one of
Varian's best ideas. This file is in each user directory and is located
in vnmrsys/persistence/appdir_username. 'username' is name of the user,
naturally. With this you can change how the VNMRJ software will set up.
This is the way that Chempack and Biopack can change the VNMRJ interface
if you are using those.
The problem is that some of the parameters are set up during the first
start up of VNMRJ and then they can only be changed from within VNMRJ.
What I did to get around this is to run a script on another computer.
This script will vnc into the instrument where I can use the VNMRJ ADMIN
GUI to create the user. (I sure wish I could command line this
operation. So far I have not found a way.) Then it updates the user
password and creates the appdir file for the user. After that, when the
user does the first start up of VNMRJ, the parameters come from those
modified files and the user has what you would like for the default.
I have been able to control most of what I need this way. There is only
one parameter that I not been able to control and that is the lock
phase. Every time a new user starts, it is set to 1. I then have to
reset it back to the appropriate value for that instrument. Having to
set just this one parameter is better than having to reconfigure the 30
or so values that my addon fixes.
