Hi all,
Although I am not finished investigating yet, I may have damaged
the primary Ethernet connection on the O2 that runs our Avance300.
Yesterday, while connecting another computer to the hub that services the
O2, I drew a (very painful ) cm long static spark to the hub. (The relative
humidity in the lab is currently about 5 %) Immediately afterwards I noticed
that
there was no Ethernet connection to the O2. I've tried replacing the hub and
the cable to no effect. SGI's power up diagnostics don't complain about
anything, and neither do the maintenance mode diagnostics. The second
Ethernet connection (to the spectrometer) still works fine, thankfully.
Since we do most processing off-line, this creates a real problem.
Does anyone else know any other diagnostics that I might run? - SGI's
"manual" isn't very helpful.
>From what I can tell so far, this Ethernet hardware is built onto the system
module. I guess that this means that I will have to replace the system module.
Does anyone know a good fast source for SGI parts? Is SGI itself good in this
regard? Or are the third party suppliers better? Fast is more important than
cheap at this point - within reason, of course.
Thanks in advance
