Dear all,
A big thank you to all respondents and especially those with offers of help
and suggestions for my broken “quartz gas delivery tube” (VT dewar is
the name of the part apparently). Since there were some queries regarding
how I managed, here is a summary of possible options.
1. Buy (at a premium) from Bruker.
2. Buy from other vendors, e.g. New Era (
https://newera-spectro.com/dewars-for-nmr-applications-2).
If quartz is not needed, New Era also offers VT dewars in pyrex and they even do repairs.
Prices as still at a premium though.
3. Repair by a glass blower that can handle quartz (ours couldn’t). The repair
is difficult and one respondent reported that their repair lasted for a while before
giving up (the joint is weakened). If pyrex can suffice, then I guess most glass blowers
can fashion a replacement made of pyrex.
4. Ask at AMMRL (highly recommended of course).
I was extremely lucky and was able to find a replacement at modest cost from
Spin-Doc (
http://www.spin-doc.net/).
Best regards and Happy Holidays,
Karel
