Dear colleaugues,
we would like to run solution NMR experiments in liquid xenon at
variable temperature.
Xenon is super-critcal at room temperature but liquid below 16°C. At
this temperature the pressure is ~ 58 bar. At 0°C the pressure is ~ 42
bar. I know that there are high pressure tubes made of sapphire but I
would like to take normal glass which I could flame seal. The advantage
of normal glass would be the possibility to run variable temperature
measurements in the range from -80 to ~0°C. I calculated that a wall
thickness of at least 1.5 mm is needed in order to withstand a pressure
of 60 bar.
- Does anyone has experience running NMR in liquid Xenon?
- Are there any recommendations which kind of glass tube I should try
which I could flame-seal?
- Are there commercial NMR tubes for a pressure range around 50 bar made
of glass? I know that there are the "New Era controlled atmosphere tubes
" with 1.4 mm wall thickness but they should only be used up to a
pressure of ~30 bar
Thanks a lot
Markus
