AMMRLers,
we are in the process our NMR facility of two instruments (300 and 500
MHz) as we await delivery of a new 500 MHz spectrometer to replace our
current DRX-500. I have already reading some of the recent threads
regarding remodelling, and we will do the work in two stages, separating
the half of the room being worked in from the other by a plywood wall.
It was out fate that our 300 MHz magnet just quenched recently, and will
need to be rebuilt, which led us to move up the schedule for
remodeling. Currently the plan is to remodel the half of the room
without spectrometer first, then move the warmed up 300 to its new
location in the remodeled part of the room, take down and remove the
500, remodel the second part, then take delivery of the new 500. This
seems to minimize potential impact or damage of construction to
spectrometers. I have a few questions for people that may have done
similar endeavors:
We are thinking of having Bruker move the 300 as part of their
re-pumping and re-energizing, as we have them on site already. But I am
curious whether anybody has done a move of a magnet+console (warmed up)
by about 20' in a room by themselves, and are there any experiences they
would like to share. Are there any third party companies (like
MR-resouces) people have utilized in moving/rebuilding/reenergizing) NMR
spectrometers ?
He are installing new air vents in the room. Is there a minimum
distance between a vent at the ceiling blowing down air and the location
of an NMR magnet/console ?
We plan on replacing the carpet we currently have. Directly around the
magnets, we plan just painted concrete, but we are not sure about the
rest of the room. Going again with carpet
would be best regarding noise, but has the issue of collecting dust.
Linoleum may be easier to clean, but may break when liquid nitrogen gets
spilled. So I am curious what kind of floor people have in their facility.
