Brian,

I’ve have the same problem on my 500, but its occurrence seems to be somewhat turbine specific. Accordingly I feel it’s just a thorough cleaning of the upper barrel is all that is needed (but I’ve been too busy to do so). I don’t think it would have to do with a misalignment between the upper barrel and probe since that last two inch drop occurs within the upper barrel. Did you clean it when you had it out?

Subject: AMMRL: Varian sample insert problem

Spinlanders,

We've been having a problem where the sample doesn't insert into the probe on our 600. We don't hear the usual second "clunk" noise and there's no lock or proton signal. It seems to be cause by some misalignment between probe and upper barrel. Wiggling the upper barrel sometimes helps, but the problem seems to be getting worse and I need a real solution to it. I've tried pulling out both the probe and the upper barrel and re-installing them to no avail. I've looked for any obstruction on the outside of the upper barrel that might affect alignment but found nothing. The probe looks OK and the problem occurs with both liquids probes. Has anyone else experienced this and hopefully found a solution?
Thanks
