RE:AMMRL: Liquid Helium in Canada Urgent

Hello everyone,

An update from the University of Alberta. I just made an order for 350L of liquid helium for next week (800MHz, and 2 x 500MHz). I asked the order desk and my rep if they have heard of any issues in the past few days, and they responded that they haven't heard of any problems.

If I don't get my helium I do have 300L in our helium facility, but I would lose most of it transferring into warm dewars.

I hope to get my 350L next week. I'll keep you updated.

Deryck Webb

Dear All:

I don’t know what is going on exactly, but our supplier (Air Gas) gets their liquid helium from Air Products, and my 100L Dewar that was ordered on November 21st did not arrive last Monday as scheduled. We had no warning that this order would not be fulfilled, and it simply did not show up last week. We also have an open order in for 250L (for our 800MHz magnet), and another 100L (for our 600 and one of our 500s in the Biochemistry/Biotechnology building), and we have been told that helium will NOT arrive this week as scheduled. Thus far we haven’t been able to get any information at all about a possible delivery date.

All of this happened just weeks after we received the “all clear”, in terms of the shortage and rationing in our area.

I don’t know what to make of this, but it’s possible that we are going to be in a very bad way very soon. If anyone has any concrete information to share, please do so (not that knowing what’s going on will help to fill our magnets).

Good Luck, everyone,

Subject: AMMRL: Liquid Helium in Canada Urgent

Hi Ammrl,

Does anyone know where we can get Liquid Helium from in Toronto/Ontario/Canada (or even from the U.S. that delivers to Canada).
We have to fill 3 magnets and our supplier of 15 years just rang and told us they have no liquid Helium. They cancelled our order that was placed over a month ago with just days notice !
The magnets are ready to fill and we are not sure if they will last the Christmas break until Jan. Even if they do we are not sure if we can get liquid helium in Jan. Does anyone know of anyone we can order from ?
Prax Air cannot guarantee anything, Air Products are out completely.
We are open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks loads, Cheers
Andre
