Dear colleagues,
Our current instrument specialist who has been taken care of our instrument found a faculty position will be leaving in January 2014, and I am working with our HR to get the ad for the replacement position posted. I might also advertise it in C&EN News. In the meantime, I thought it might be helpful to advertise on the AMMRL community. If anyone knows a suitable person who would be interested in this position, please encourage him/her to apply. While I prefer someone who has experience in either NMR or LC/MS management, for applicants with strong scientific background, training will be provided either by myself or sending him/her to attend the vendor courses if needed.
This position will have ample time to participate in research and publish papers, and I strongly prefer applicants who would have such motivation.
Feel free to call me or email me for any additional information or for discussions.
Best regards,
Wei Li
Research Specialist position available:
A state-funded research specialist (staff) position is available immediately in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Responsibility:
The main duty of the position is to maintain major shared analytical instruments, including a Bruker 400M Avance III NMR with an autosampler, a Varian (Agilent) 500M Unity Inova NMR, a Waters Xevo G2-S high resolution spectrometer connected to an UPLC system, an AB Sciex API-3000 LC/MS system, an AB Sciex API-4500 LC/MS system, a Bruker Esquire ion-trap LC/MS system, and other small shared instruments (IR, UV/Vis and polarimeter). The research specialist will be responsible for routine maintenance, user training, and accounting for user fees for these instruments. He/she will run external NMR and MS samples for local biotech companies via established service contracts. He/she will also assist the faculty director in performing minor repairs to the instruments and assist the faculty director in preparation of instrument grant when necessary. In addition, working with the faculty director to do mutually interested research on drug discovery and analytical chemistry and be able to publish papers are strongly preferred. This staff scientist will be assisted with two graduate students for routine filling of liquid nitrogen for the NMRs, as well as assisting in routine training of the users if necessary.
Qualifications:
A minimum of Master's degree is required, although a PhD degree is preferred. Prior experience in managing shared analytical instruments, especially NMRs or LC/MS, are highly desirable, but training will be provided by the faculty director or attending vendor course work for highly motivated applicant. Experience in small molecule drug discovery/development as evidenced by first author publications are highly desirable.
Application:
The position will be formally advertised by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center job placement site, and all formal applications should be submitted via that website. However, before the job number is assigned, applicants who are interested in this position can send CV and names of three references to Dr. Wei Li at wli_at_uthsc.edu<mailto:wli_at_uthsc.edu>.
