AMMRL: What 10 years do to craftmanship...

Hey gang,

Just wanted to share something because I believe many of you will feel the same way I did.

We are getting another 400, and we decided to get another step-ladder to go with it. We got a 3-step Cramer Sure-Stop 10 years ago for our older instrument (in great part because it was recommended by many AMMRLers), so we decided to get an identical one. The difference in quality is abysmal. While our 10-year old ladder is, with the exception of the handrails, all welded, the new one is all pieces that need to be aseembled with nuts/bolts. All the weight on the back legs goes on two 1/8" aluminum rivets. The welds on the parts that are welded are pretty bad when compared to the welds on the old ladder. The feet are all plastic instead of aluminum, and they are black so they stick out like a sore thumb. I guess the ONLY improvement is that the nuts/bolts are non-magnetic, but that is probably because they are made from a cheaper alloy with tons of Zn ;-)

Same model, same manufacturer, 10 years apart. Sad...

G.
