The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB) at the University
of New Mexico seeks a Mass Spectrometrist to operate the Mass
Spectrometry facility of the department. This is a full-time staff
position and incumbent will report to the Research Facilities Director.
The Research Scientist 3 would be responsible for operation and
maintenance of the mass spectrometers as well as users’ training on the
instruments in the department. Users include researchers from multiple
universities and medical and pharmacy schools at and outside of UNM,
and other non-profit and profit institutions.
Major Duties and responsibilities:
Exact mass, tandem MS and other mass spectrometric analysis of small
molecules.
Mass spectrometric analysis of macro-molecules (proteins and polymers).
Interpretation and reporting of analytical data to researchers and clients.
Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing facility instruments.
Provide guidance to researchers in designing and performing appropriate
experiments.
Provide user training on facility instruments.
Supervise walk-on use of a GC-MS instrument.
Supervise walk-on use of a Shimadzu MALDI instrument.
Designing experiments on Waters UPLC/ Q-TOF MS and APGC instruments.
Supervise a teaching assistant and a research scientist.
Budgeting, billing, and helping in grant proposal writing for the MS
facility.
