PPG is seeking an NMR expert to join the Pittsburgh Analytical department as a member of the molecular analysis team. Responsibilities include development and implementation of analytical methods to help drive new product development, address customer problems, and support regulatory requests. The position will employ various NMR techniques for structural elucidation of small molecules and identification of impurities in complex mixtures. The candidate will collaborate with customers and experts in orthogonal techniques (mass spec, chromatography, etc.) to develop and implement solutions to sophisticated problems. Communicating technical findings is a key aspect of this role.

Qualifications
Experience and Education
* A PhD is required in Chemistry, polymer science, material science, or related discipline. However, a Master's degree and NMR experience will also be taken into consideration.
* Proficiency in liquids NMR and small molecule structure elucidation is required
* The ability to coordinate NMR instrumentation training, use, and care:
* Magnet care and maintenance (e.g. cryogen fills, etc.
* Spectrometer maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
* Hardware familiarity (e.g. probe switching)
* Familiarity with complimentary analytical tools and their applications is desirable
* A background in synthetic organic chemistry is beneficial, but not required
* Consistently deliver high-quality results that meet rigorous statistical analysis
* Self-motivated problem solver who can manage projects with minimal supervision
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Able to write reports, give presentations, and lead discussions.
* Able to work in a team as a contributor or leader
Education
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field. Industrial experience desirable, but not required. However, a Master's degree and NMR experience will also be taken into consideration.
