NMR Probe Scientist

Agilent Technologies is a global, diversified technology company, with 20,000 people focused on creating instruments for the communications, electronics and life sciences industries.

Agilent Laboratories, the corporate research center for Agilent Technologies, is seeking a candidate with a strong background in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probe development, with experience in the design and evaluation of the multi-nuclear circuits and resonators that comprise the probe. Of particular importance for this position is experience in and aptitude for probe design, assembly and (electrical and NMR) testing. A successful candidate will have received a college degree in physics, engineering, or related field. Preferably the candidate has authored scientific publications and/or patents involving novel probe designs and implementations. The candidate must enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams.

Agilent Laboratories is located on Agilent's main campus in Santa Clara, CA in the heart of the dynamic Silicon Valley. The work environment includes a diverse and dynamic group of researchers from many measurement science disciplines, including but not limited to: theoretical physics, material science, microfabrication, high speed electronics, high frequency measurement, sensor networks, nucleic acid chemistry, bioinformatics, microfluidics, systems biology, nanoscale measurements, optical spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Researchers at Agilent Laboratories typically work on exploring and developing new technologies which are three to seven years into the future

Qualifications

Required

* Degree in physics, physical chemistry, chemical physics, engineering, or related field

* Experimentalist with experience in at least two of the following, with a willingness and passion to learn the others:

o Design of detection probes for NMR spectroscopy

o Use of electromagnetic (e.g. finite element) or multi-physics modeling packages

o Use of frequency-domain circuit modeling packages (e.g. s-parameter modeling packages such as ADS or equivalent)

o Construction of detection probes for NMR spectroscopy

o Electrical and NMR evaluation of probes for NMR spectroscopy

o Experience with RF measurement platforms such as network analysis, spectrum analysis, and noise measurement.

* Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills; ability to engage in discussions with, and present data/results to business and collaborative partners.

* Strong analytical skills and decision making ability.

* Ability to excel in a multidisciplinary project team.

Desired

* Peer reviewed publications in major scientific journals that feature novel probe designs and applications
