AMMRL: Oxford magnets, polish and wax?

Hi all,

Last week I decided to polish and wax one of our older Oxford magnets.
Had thought about doing this on a number of occasions in the past, but
what spurred me into action was that the magnet had just been rebuilt
with new o-rings and was de-energized. I used Turtle Wax polishing
compound and scrubbed the can pretty vigorously with it. After that, I
put on a layer of Turtle Wax. The final outcome is a great looking
magnet. All the stupid stuck-on scotch tape and similar debris came
off, and the polishing compound removed much of the rust-looking brown
spots on the magnet. The magnet looks great.

So here's my question: Should I repeat this process on our other Oxford
magnets, which are at field? In the past, I worried that the polishing
compound might have a finely dispersed magnetic particulate in it; I
don't think it does, but.... I am also concerned about the "dust" that
is generated by the polishing compound and wax. I'm hoping that some of
you have experience or knowledge that can assist. Any of you wax your
magnets? Or is this a known (except to me) bad thing to do? Would
really appreciate hearing back.

Cheers,
Charlie

P.S. For those of you hoping to hear back from me about software to
assist with getting IconNMR accounting logs into Excel, my apologize.
I've not yet managed getting enough time set aside to make substantive
progress on this issue. But summer class and vacation have both ended,
so will happen soon.
