AMMRL: Usage Metrics from Log files

I am attempting to generate usage metrics based on the saved fid/log files for a
Varian Unity Inova running 2.2 D and RHEL 5.1. This is a single user instrument
and I store all my fids in ~/vnmrsys/data by project name. Thus data has
multiple levels of folders underneath it named for projects. My limited unix
knowledge has enabled me to grep, head or tail the information out of these
files but it still requires a fair amount of manual manipulation. I assume
anyone proficient in unix would be able to sit in the data directory and use a
few simple commands to generate a text file that contains the start and stop
time associated with the path it came from. I want to be able to take the output
into excel so I can in the associate the number of spectra, acquisition time,
and whether it is 1D or 2D (I determine this from the name) with a project
(determined by the path). Is there anyone out there who keeps track of usage
this way and could offer some advice or suggest a better method?

Thanks,
John
