Background

We are looking to recruit an NMR Spectroscopist in Process R&D (PR&D) Analytical Chemistry at AstraZeneca, Macclesfield, Cheshire. You will be a recognised scientific expert, demonstrating creativity in the application of NMR spectroscopy, particularly solution state, to problem solving within drug development projects. You will initiate, guide and coordinate technological and scientific development within NMR spectroscopy in PR&D.

Duties

Provide expert technical advice to project teams and play a major part in problem solving across Process R&D. Utilise your problem solving skills combined with expert knowledge to provide a detailed understanding of technical issues and propose appropriate solutions that will move projects forward. Initiate, guide and co-ordinate technological and scientific developments within NMR spectroscopy. Support the technical development of PR&D by providing appropriate training courses/seminars etc. Maintain an up-to-date awareness of the latest technical advances in NMR spectroscopy and their potential benefit to the business. Initiate and maintain scientific contacts and/or collaborations within AstraZeneca and externally, in order to enhance research and business objectives through exchange of ideas and knowledge. Represent PR&D both within AstraZeneca and at external meetings and, when appropriate, publish, patent and present work both internally and externally. Line management is not an essential feature of the role but the individual may manage a small group (usually <3).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements - Education and Experience You are likely to hold a Degree/PhD or equivalent in chemistry and have relevant postgraduate experience in NMR spectroscopy, including extensive experience of 2D techniques. Skills & Capabilities Extensive knowledge of NMR spectroscopy including 2D techniques. A recognised scientific expert, able to demonstrate creativity in the application of NMR spectroscopy to problem solving. Able to initiate, guide and co-ordinate technological and scientific development within NMR spectroscopy Awareness of other complementary analytical techniques and conversant with a wide range of analytical techniques. Good knowledge of organic chemistry An understanding of the technical challenges associated with the scale up of chemical reactions
