We have an AMX 500 that still has amazing performance, except
that it is still limping along on its original X32 computer. Not only
is this computer very slow (by modern standards) but parts such as disk drives
and even mice can be hard to obtain.
Once upon a time, you could upgrade these systems to an SGI box running
XwinNMR (2.5 or possibly 2.6). However, neither Bruker nor MR resources
seem interested any longer. I even have a spare O2 that I could use for this.
I am reasonably comfortable working inside a spectrometer, so I am wondering
if anyone has tried this conversion themselves? If so, how did it go, and
are there any suggestions on where I might get the necessary parts? From my
understanding, there a few boards that go in the carcass of the X32
(CCU, SIB, acquisition interface, memory??) and one board that has to
go in the A3001 acquisition box.to handle lock display. Possibly some
new cables as well.
Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions. A new console is not an option,
right now, so I would really like to get some more life out of this machine.
I will be away the week of Aug 3, but I will get back to anyone (and possibly
post a summary) after I return.
Cheers
