NMR Advanced Support Applications Specialist
VARIAN, Inc. NMR Systems designs and manufactures quality scientific
instruments for the biochemical, pharmaceutical, environmental, and
petrochemical markets. Our products change lives and enhance the world
we live in. We currently have an opening for an APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST
on our Palo, Alto, CA headquarters, located in the heart of the Silicon
Valley.
Position Description:
Provide Ph.D. level application and technical support on Varian, Inc.,
NMR product lines and peripherals. Specific emphasis is on NMR
applications, but will also involve supporting the associated computer
hardware and software, primarily SUN Microsystems’ hardware, operating
systems, system administration and associated networking products.
Assist in the development and delivery of product training, including
the creation of technical training information and service bulletins,
and act as the service liaison between engineering and manufacturing in
support of existing and new products. Knowledge of Varian NMR
spectrometers is essential.
Qualifications:
1. Doctor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, or other related
technical discipline plus four (4) years related experience in working
and understanding NMR applications and techniques.
2. An understanding of RF, analog and digital electronic circuitry as it
pertains to high field NMR Instruments.
3. Experience in NMR techniques and skills. Familiarity with UNIX and
VNMR programming preferred.
4. Good written and verbal abilities including teaching technical
subjects to students of varying knowledge levels.
5. Solid interpersonal skill are important, including the ability to
effectively work in a team environment and interact with customers,
account managers, product managers, design engineers, application
chemists, as well as installation and field service engineers.
6. Must be willing to travel approximately 20% to 30% of the time.
