This past weekend one of our SGIs was attacked by email spammers. The
version of sendmail installed on SGIs can be used to relay mail
messages. There is a patch, #3937, for the latest versions of IRIX,
6.5.7 and 6.5.8, which installs sendmail 8.9.3 which is by default
closed to this type of attack. Many machines at Brandeis were attacked.

See http://maps.vix.com/tsi/ for information on securing mail servers
against abuse by spammers.
