Dear colleagues,
We are trying for a cheap alternative to transfer data for
from the Aspect-3000 of our MSL-300 to a nearby PC.
So far we are using kermit and the RS232 port on the aspect
with unacceptable transfer rates (a 16K fid needs 4 min).
But the 2000 Euro Bruker wants for NMR-Link look expensive
to the department.
A search through the AMMRL archives showed that indeed there
are alternatives, in that one can get a suitable board for an old PC,
manufacture a connecting cable for the parallel port of the aspect3000,
and use zznet or nmrnet to transfer files with the speed of light
(compared to our present capabilities). I managed to find Zolnai's
et al paper on JMR, 88, 511 (1990), however the practical information
I managed to dig in the archives is scattered and old (1994-95).
(or maybe I did not search good enough).
Has anyone recently made this work ?
We would appreciate any information on the practical side,
for example:
1. What type of board do we need to search for ?
2. How old does the PC and its OS (Win 3.11 ?) have to be?
3. Is the connector's wiring diagram on Zolnai's paper enough for
our electronics technician ?
4. Where can we find the software needed?
