HETCOR problem(s)

Greetings and Salutations.......etc.

I have been trying to run a HETCOR expt for about a week now w/o success.

I have calibrated the Carbon 90 degree pulse (ie 9.5 at power=56) and the
decoupler hard pulse
(11 at 56). Using these numbers a dept expt. works fine with excellent
editing - so far as
I can tell.

but hetcor fails. If I set ni=1, and nt=8 (sample in this case was 30%
4-methoxy benzyl alcohol I only get noise (I can see a small spike in the
center of the spectrum). I can get a good C13 spectrum with this sample
with nt=8.

I have tried this both on a 300MHz Varian Mercury and a 400MHz Inova with
similiar results.
both have a 4nuc autoswitching probe, which I am using in the autoswitching
mode.

recompiling the hetcor pulse sequence had no effect.

Both the instrument and myself are fairly new to hetcor. In fact I don't
think this expt has
been run before on either instrument.

I appreciate your help.

Carl
