Saeed Roushanzamir and WIll York at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center
have developed a software package called the "Faces Scheduling System." This
Web-based software was initially designed for scheduling the use of scientific
instruments, such as NMR spectrometers, but is quite flexible and can be used
for a wide range of scheduling tasks. The software consists of a set of
server-side C-programs (supplied as C source code) and a Java applet that runs
on the client's web browser. The package allows the administrator to create a
schedule for each instrument. Schedule reservations can be made by authorized
users, who are each assigned a password by the administrator. Users can delete
their own reservations or send e-mail messages regarding specific reservations
to other authorized users. The package includes scripts to facilitate
installation on UNIX servers. This scheduling package is operational at the
CCRC, and at two other nmr facilities (GA Tech and The Centre for Magnetic
Resonance at the University of Queensland). To see a demonstration version of
the Faces Scheduling System, point your browser to:

or for a real-life application of the software, go to:

To obtain the Faces Scheduling System software for your facility, send an e-mail

Thank You.
