NMR Facilities Director – Associate Director of Campus Chemical Instrument Center
The NMR Facility within the CCIC at Ohio State is recruiting a new Associate Director for NMR operations. The facility operates three high-field spectrometers: an 800 MHz and two 600 MHz Bruker instruments with cryoprobes at each field, an array of other probe options, and configured for a variety of high resolution experiments. The facility supports high field needs of programs at OSU and around the state, as well as government and industrial clients. Research areas supported encompass biopolymers, natural products, synthetic molecules, investigational drugs and metabolites, resins and bulk materials properties.
The person hired will oversee all operational aspects of the facility, including use and service scheduling and prioritizing, new- and advanced-user training, consultation on experimental design and interpretation, development or adaptation of new or refined acquisition methodologies, routine spectrometer maintenance and trouble-shooting, fiscal planning, marketing, and regular communications with the user community. The Associate Director supervises additional staff member(s) and reports to the Director of the CCIC and the Oversight Committee. The Associate Director will work with faculty and the CCIC Director in the preparation of proposals for facilities and instrument upgrades, replacements and additions.
The successful candidate will have considerable experience with the application of high resolution NMR methods to a broad range of molecules in solution. Experience with maintenance of NMR spectrometers (console hardware, data systems, magnets and probes) is highly desirable. Experience with management of a multi-user, shared-access NMR facility - including its user, administrative and vendor constituencies - is likewise highly desirable.
The position requires a Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline, or equivalent experience, with emphasis on high field, high resolution NMR spectroscopy. Institutional or industrial experience with service laboratory administration is very desirable. Experiences in other NMR applications areas are also useful. Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills are essential. A competitive salary and benefits package is available, commensurate with experience and appointment.
