Dear All,

I just wanted to update everyone about the tentative plan for our annual
Monday night meeting at the ENC.

My plan is to have a brief introduction and summary of what's going on with
AMMRL. Then Josh Kurutz has offered to give us a brief summary of his
recent survey about User Training, and George Gray has offered to update us
on the progress of the ASTM committee's work on developing new NMR
performance standards.

Then we will break-out in to small discussion groups covering several
topics, some of which have been proposed by our members and some of which (I
hope) will be proposed at the meeting.

Topics that have been suggested (or that I have thought of) are:

1) Cold Probes (a recurring topic that still affects a lot of us), I'm
happy to moderate this one.. maybe someone with a Bruker Cryo-probe could
co-moderate (I did this many years ago with John Chung, we can see how far
we've come in so many years).

2) More Discussion on the ASTM topic (with George Gray)

3) More Discussion on the User Training topic (if people are interested
in continuing this discussion)

Other possible ideas (if there is interest).

4) Implementing third-party software for NMR processing and analysis
(just an idea, as I've been trying to wean people off of the spectrometer
software).

5) Strategies for long-term data storage and distribution in labs with
many users and groups.

In past years, the Chapel has accommodated around 5 separate groups without
too much disruption. If any of you have ideas, and are willing to
lead/moderate a discussion topic, please let me know, or just bring your
idea with you to our meeting. I'm happy to open the floor to any ideas that
will stimulate and interest our members in attendance.

I look forward to seeing many of you at Asilomar.

Best regards,

-Rich Shoemaker
