Hi all:
Bill Stevens' recent email has, as he put it, "resonated" with the
group, and provides for a logical area for discussion at the upcoming
AMMRL meeting. Bill's email actually raised three issues:
1. The level of training provided in a facility, and the resulting
competence expected of users.
2. The impact of automation on user competence.
3. The increasing complexity of spectrometer software, in particular for
administrators.
Bill and the list-wide responses appear to be most concerned about the
first and second issues. They are close enough to form a single
discussion group, and I will add this to the list for the AMMRL meeting;
if you would be willing to lead this discussion group, please let me know.
I have become, over the last 18 months, increasing concerned about the
third issue. New software in my lab is significantly more complex than
it had been, and is giving me very big headaches. (And yes, I'm talking
about VNMRJ. Is TopSpin giving Bruker folks similar angst?)
I'm not sure there will be time to have a separate discussion group on
this issue, but I would love to hear from any of you that have similar
concerns. Perhaps there will be enough interest to set up another
discussion group, or perhaps a group of us can get together at another
time during the vendor meetings or ENC.
Charlie
