thermocouples

Dear Colleagues,
I have a terrible spike problem with a home-built VT probe. I use an
Omega sheathed thermocouple which is not grounded (the Omega people
said that's what I needed).

If the beast is just connected to the T-controller, it's fine. As soon
as we switch on the controller, I get tremendous spikes in the spectrum.

Can you help me? Is the info from Omega correct? Or do I need one
that's grounded?

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Tanja
