Call for Abstracts for a symposium in the Chemical Education Division at
the ACS meeting this August in Washington, DC.

Innovative Experiments and Approaches for Permanent Magnet NMR
Spectrometers in High School and Undergraduate Courses

In this symposium, authors will present innovative pedagogical experiments
and approaches for using a permanent magnet (60 or 90 MHz) NMR spectrometer
(CW or FT) for chemistry courses. Even though some institutions are moving
towards high field, superconducting NMR instruments, many institutions rely
on low field instrumentswhich are more affordable, easily maintained, and
student friendlyfor teaching a broad and deep range of NMR experiments.
The purpose of the symposium is to provide a forum for participants to
share successful experiments involving H-1, C-13, multinuclear,
quantitative, and advanced techniques. Experiments may be for use at the
high school, community college, or university level. We also welcome
discussions of successful fundraising strategies and pedagogical approaches
for integrating NMR across the chemistry curriculum.

If you wish to submit an abstract for a talk, please go to:
http://oasys.acs.org/acs/230nm/ched/papers/index.cgi

The deadline for submitting an abstract is April 26, 2005.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for your consideration.
