Hello again from Mr. Solaris expert.
I am STILL unsuccessful in interfacing an UltraSPARC to a diff-box to
control my VXR-300 and I am at wit's end (and you needn't remind me that
it's a shorter trip for me than for others). Here is a synopsis of what
I've done:
STEP 1) Changed diff box to active termination. LED lights up and all is
well between the SPARC 5 and the VXR.
STEP 2) Tried Ultra-10 with Sun X6541 SCSI card (VHDC68 to D50 cable
identical to one working at K-State). No LED on terminator, probe-scsi-all
does not find diff box.
STEP 3) Tried Ultra-60 with SCSI on motherboard (MD68 connector). No LED.
probe-scsi-all hangs after /pci_at_1f,4000/scsi_at_3,1 and diff box (target 3)
never gets recognized.
STEP 4) Tried different diff box. No change.
VNMR News, issues 2000-02-12, 1998-04-24, and 1998-09-11 say that I've got
to use Varian's SCSI cable, yet K-State, MIT, and U Chicago report that
standard UltraSpec cables work fine for them.
Question 1) Does anyone have a Varian SCSI cable to lend me for a day so I
can test their claim? I'd prefer to use the U60, which would need a
MD68-D50 cable, but am willing to use the U10, which needs a VHDC68-D50 cable.
Question 2) Has someone else covered this ground and can straighten me out
on special pin-to-pin mapping required to get target 3 on board the bus?
Please forgive me for all this traffic on this problem.
