Analytical R&D Lab Manager
A global producer of fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates/API's
is seeking a uniquely qualified individual to lead the analytical laboratory
supporting chemical R&D activities in their North Carolina facility. This
facility is part of a profitable business unit within an internationally
recognized organization.
The successful candidate must have considerable experience in NMR
spectroscopy. Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry and chromatography
is a definite plus.
Analytical instrumentation contained in this laboratory includes two NMR's
(Bruker 300 and 400 MHz), mass spectrometers (Micromass LC-TOF and HP 5973
GC/MS), and 12 HPLC's (HP 1100) and 10 GC's (HP 6890). FTIR, DSC, and
polarimeter instruments are also present and will require installation.
This position is within the chemical R&D group and will have at least one
direct report initially. The successful candidate, however, should have
"hands-on" experience with these or similar instruments and will be expected
to directly provide NMR and MS support to the R&D group.
This individual should have extensive solution phase experience with
multi-dimensional 1H, 13C, and heteronuclear NMR. Knowledge of relevant
Bruker hardware and software would be an asset. NMR-related duties will
include general instrument maintenance, hardware/software troubleshooting,
UNIX system administration, and training users in the practice of modern NMR
spectroscopy.
Applicants should also have experience with small molecule structure
elucidation using LC/MS and GC/MS. In addition, the successful candidate
should have hands-on expertise in impurity profiling and assay development
of small molecules and experience in method development
(quantitative/qualitative/chiral) for LC and GC.
As consultation and close interaction with R&D chemists will be a daily
occurrence, excellent language and communication skills for this position
are essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
If you have the experience outlined here and want to play a key role in a
growing program with a world class organization, this might well be an
opportunity worth pursuing.
