Colleagues,
The Rice University Chemistry Department will soon shut down a
13-year-old, Bruker AC-250. The console is being donated as a source of
spare parts to another university in the area that has this model
spectrometer. We are trying to find a home for the magnet, an Oxford 5.87
Tesla magnet with a 54mm room temperature bore. With virtually all of the
department's NMR work now done on three much newer spectrometers, we could
not justify the cost of moving it elsewhere on campus for use.
We need to move the magnet out of the lab in the next two weeks, as
the lab is about to be renovated for a new faculty member. If your school
or other non-profit institution is interested in acquiring this magnet and
willing to assume the cost of de-energizing, packing, and shipping it,
please contact me. Any for-profit organization so interested may also
contact us; however, we will first try to donate it to a school or other
non-profit organization.
