The Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan is seeking a
highly qualified, experienced PhD NMR spectroscopist to promote and
facilitate the use of state-of-art instrumentation and techniques by
students and faculty in several areas of the chemistry-related sciences
(organic; organometallic; materials; biomedical; pharmaceutical). This
individual will have extensive solution phase experience with
multi-dimensional 1H, 13C, and heteronuclear NMR, preferably in an
academic or industrial NMR service facility, including knowledge of
relevant hardware and software. Applicants are also encouraged to
summarize their experience with solid state NMR, computer simulation,
correlation of NMR data with molecular structure and geometry, and
molecular modeling software and its use in the NMR context.
Responsibilities include a leadership role in the advancement of NMR
capabilities among students and faculty, participation in advanced NMR
courses or workshops and relevant training sessions, and preparation of
grant applications for instrument acquisition. Collaboration with
research groups on the sophisticated use of NMR techniques (DOSY, NOESY,
ROESY, TOCSY, HMBC, HMQC etc.), experimental design, and publication of
results will be among the key roles for this individual. Depending on
qualifications and experience, responsibilities will be negotiated to
maximize efficient assignment of duties for the new position, and may
include components of administrative, instructional, and
